Hello everyone,
I am currently teaching forensics to seniors for the first year at my high school. Here are a few of the projects that the students have & will do.
I recently had the students come to class with a crime scene in mind. They had to construct the rough sketch & put in all the necessary information. The next day the CAD teacher let my students come in to do the finished sketch. It worked out great. The CAD teacher wants to do this project next year too.
Another assignment I have my students do is a web assignment over the weekend to start off the next chapter. I have posted to my web page the questions and have linked the necessary web pages for them to find their answers. They can also research the internet for other reliable sites. Examples of web quest assignments are:
Ted Bundy - the students were asked to read the material & find out what 2 pieces of incriminating evidence led to his conviction.
Last assignment they had to look up JonBenet Ramsey & list 3 pieces of evidence found at the scene, what was the final ruling of her death from the coroners report & what were 2 things that went wrong with the investigation that led to no conviction.
This weekend they will learn about the Green River Killer.
You can go to my website to see what my page looks like at:

Click on academics, then science
Scroll down to forensics
Another project that I am excited about is I have the county Coroner coming in to perform an autopsy with the students. The students will be dissecting a fetal pig along with her to learn how to weigh the organs & do the final stich up.
They will also be doing a job shadowing project in the spring with the States Attorney, county coroner a district Judge, a state policeman & the fire chief to learn all about their jobs. If anyone has any other jobs that I could persue for this project let me know.
I also have the state police from Joliet coming in for their final project of processing a crime scene here at the school.
This is my first year with this class & so far everything is going well.

I was reading that Forensic Science was added to the high school curricula during the 2008-2009 academic year - in the US- . I was wondering how teachers are dealing with this new area!
I bet this forum will be a good start for them
